In my younger years I am certain that a good deal of my day dreams consisted of being a mermaid (yes, being a Springfield/Dayton Photographer was not my only aspiration.) - The Little Mermaid was after all one of my all-time favorites! My two sweet daughters similar love of Ariel inspired this summer's Styled-Petites! I just knew that I had to find a way to create a magical moment for little dreamers just like us to treasure! Mermaids mermaids mermaids! (((If I could fit in those tails, I would totally do it too.))) It took weeks to mentally plan out my vision! I knew that the locations and the quality of the tails were imperative to create that beautiful image these ladies would treasure through their childhood and beyond! Unfortunately Southwest Ohio is short on those beaches but we do have some gorgeous Dayton Metro-parks. Cox Arboretum was the spot! This session might be one of my most popular and spots filled up quickly! Little Miss Harper was one of the lucky ladies that snagged a spot. I will never forget the quick smile and sparkle in her eye when I pulled out the options for her to choose: blue tail or green tail. She quickly picked the blue and just basked in the glory of her new tail. (((mermaid tail&top by The Mertailor))) Her delight and joy are the reason I love to do what I do. Creating art, beautiful memories and moments that bring a little more joy and fun in to the lives of other people is exactly what I strive to provide with each and every session. Your memories are my passion. And this sweet face, this beautiful mermaid will most definitely be one of my favorites. I will be honest, after doing this for about 5+ years this was my very first summer offering sunset sessions. Can you believe that!? I know, I KNOW! That is just plain crazy considering it is one of the best times to shoot - the golden hour (we can talk about that another time)! But let me tell you what a fun (sometimes frustrating) learning experience it was. The weather and clouds play a huge role on whether or not you get those amazing shots. And Ohio weather, you just never know what you are going to get! (((good thing I married a "weatherman"))) Despite the possible doom&gloom of a rain out or overcast sunset, the end result is always worth every single second agonizing over the hope that the sun and the moon and the stars and the ducks align at the moment that client arrives on my doorstep. So I just have to share a little glimpse of my very last sunset session this season. I will be honest in saying - pure perfection. We could not have asked for a better sunset for Eilene's sweet nine-month-baby-milk-bath. The sky was perfect, the weather was gorgeous and the model, need I even say anything?! Oh and how she LOVED every second of it. Snapping the shutter at just the right time and just the right angle are only a small part of a session. This particular session was a story, a moment in her life that her family will not forget. And the art of photography offers the gift of a memory, a keepsake to treasure throughout her lifetime. Dad knelt near, cell in hand recording her happy splashing away (PURE JOY). Mom & brother stood by me, looking lovingly at this beautiful little lady. We all smiled and swooned over her every move. Those eyes, how could you not? She laughed, she played, (she tried to drink the milk). She was pure sweetness! Well here is mine: Photography itself IS the most favorite thing. This is my passion and a never ending growing opportunity. It never stands still – there is always room to be more creative, try new things and learn more about it. It is not just pushing a button and hoping for the best. When you really dive in to it and leave all the creativity up to your fingertips (not those auto modes) you open yourself to a whole world of amazing possibility, and of course mistakes. It can take a whole lot of trial and error --- but I will save that subject for another day. Not only do I thoroughly enjoy spending the time creating a vision (and the quality time with each and every client) but also the end result. I am so excited to get home and throw the SD card on the computer to start culling through them. Creating an art to show your friends, to share with your family and hang on your walls. ---And seeing the before & after flash across the screen when I save the changes – aaaaah, love love love! So satisfying!--- Your photo result is just as important to me as it is to you. When you look at that image you do not just see a quick snip… you see a story, you re-live a moment of when the photo was taken or a time that it represents. And our memories are important. Time travels quickly, change is inevitable and those we love could be gone tomorrow. It is a blessing to me to help create something that you will look back on fondly through your lifetime and your next generation. So I cannot honestly say that I only have ONE favorite part about it. The entire start, middle and end of the process, the concept, the art and the history are my favorite thing(s). A little DIY - kind of!! but still a small victory! I ---> surprisingly <--- cannot stand clutter. I like to be organized and have everything in its place but to be honest, having the time on my side to keep things that way seems impossible -cray- So a sweet little lady I know asked me recently if I could use an old ladder for a prop or any other reason and I thought "um yes please!" IT HAS BEEN DRIVING ME CRAZY to have baskets of blankets everywhere with no real good storage area to keep them in. So piles of baby wraps, baby blankets, posers, props, headbands & bonnets have been ever piling in a variety of bags and baskets scattered through the abyss of my office/playroom (yes, half this space ends up being littered with toys). This ladder THANK YOU PINTEREST = problem solved (at least one of many). I can nicely display a good chunk of my wraps & small blankets on the top rungs for easy access and create a lil' cubby (wooden box fit perfectly *WIN*) for a few others on the bottom. THEN I thought, hey I could hang a little basket on the side and shove all those bonnets & headbands in there -may need a bigger basket soon. woohoo. What are some of your favorite out of the box storage & display tricks? Dresser by: My Home Sweet Home - Kara Folker Gorgeous family photo by: Crystal Hayes & Printed through: Miller's Professional Imaging <--the only place I go Knits by: Blue Jar 534 Camera: A random Beavercreek, Ohio Antique Shop (THANKS ROBIN) All other props, bonnets & wraps from every Etsy shop there is.
