5 Things You Don't Have to Worry About Before Your Photo Session

If you've ever thought about booking a photo session but found yourself feeling nervous, you're not alone.

One of the first things many clients tell me is, "We're so awkward in front of the camera."
The truth is, almost everyone feels that way.

The good news? You don't have to have it all figured out before your session. That's what I'm here for.
Here are five things you can stop worrying about.
1. You Don't Have to Know How to PoseThis is probably the biggest concern I hear.
"I have no idea what to do with my hands."
"We're going to look so awkward."

Don't worry. You don't need to come prepared with poses or practice in the mirror.

Throughout your session, I'll gently guide you with prompts and direction that feel natural. Before you know it, you'll be laughing, interacting with each other, and forgetting the camera is even there.
Some of the most beautiful images happen in between the poses anyway.

2. Your Kids Don't Have to Be PerfectChildren are wonderfully unpredictable.
They run.
They explore.
They get the giggles.
Sometimes they need a snack or a cuddle.

And that's okay.

I never expect children to stand perfectly still and smile on command. Instead, I embrace who they are in this season of life.

Often, those playful, unscripted moments become parents' favorite photographs because they capture their children's personalities exactly as they are.

3. You Don't Need Pinterest-Perfect OutfitsCoordinating outfits can feel overwhelming, but it doesn't have to be.
The goal isn't perfection. It's creating a look that feels comfortable, timeless, and true to your family.

I'm always happy to help with outfit planning and offer guidance before your session. Together, we'll choose colors and styles that photograph beautifully while still feeling like you.

4. Everything Doesn't Have to Go According to PlanSome of the most memorable sessions include unexpected moments.
A breeze catches your dress.
Your toddler decides to dance instead of smile.
Someone bursts into laughter.

Those moments aren't mistakes.
They're part of your story.

Rather than chasing perfection, I focus on capturing genuine connection. That's what gives your gallery life.
5. You Don't Have to Be "Photogenic"
This one might be my favorite.

So many people tell me they're not photogenic.
But being photogenic isn't something you're born with.

It's about feeling comfortable, trusting your photographer, and allowing yourself to be present with the people you love.

My job isn't to expect you to know what to do.

My job is to create an experience where you can relax, enjoy your time together, and walk away with images that feel authentic.
The Only Thing You Need to Bring
Bring yourselves.

Bring your laughter.
Bring your hugs.
Bring your personalities.

Leave the pressure behind.

Because your session isn't about creating perfect people. It's about preserving a beautiful season of your life exactly as it is.
